Autumn News from your Mens' Captain

Tue 04 Oct 2016

The 1st weekend of October has seen the main golfing year drawing to an end with just the final Sausage Supper at the end of the month. The list for this event was full in 2 days and if you want to be involved add your name to the reserves.

Members will have seen from the weekly newsletter and the press coverage that we had a very successful Captains’ Charity day with £8000 being raised on the day, thanks to all who supported the day. The golfing competition was won by Richard Yardy, Rob Latham, Gary Mayes and Dougie Davidson but EACH was the real winner on the day.

We have played the last Mens’ match at Bury St Edmunds, which was a 4-1 success and it was the 7th win from 10 matches with 2 draws and just one defeat. A number of members who before this year had not played in these matches and they have enjoyed the opportunity to represent the Club and  I would like to thank everyone who has made themselves available for these matches. If you would like to be involved next year then look out for the list to sign-up early in the New Year.

The 1st Sunday in October saw the Mens Invitation Day which has been missing from the fixture list for the last couple of years and it was good to have it restored again. The day gives the Club and members the opportunity to showcase the course and its facilities to friends, relations and work colleagues. The course was in great condition and well received by all our visitors.

The other fun competition in September was the Captain-Pro Challenge and it was a privilege to play with Andrew who played superb golf with eight birdies and an eagle in his round and with some contributions from me we managed to repel all challenges with a score of 49 points.

The weather has been fantastic, the support from the members unbelievable which has meant a great golfing summer!
