Men's 2020 Club Championships

The 2020 Men's Club Championships took place in testing conditions. This year the event was split over two days with a cut after the first day. The leading 24 players (& ties) in both the scratch and handicap championships progressed to the final day. 71 golfers played the first round on Saturday with only two players Andy Johnson (67) and Stephen Tuck (71) shooting below their handicaps. The leaderboard for the scratch prize was tightly packed with Lee Yearn (72) leading by just one shot from Chris Nixon (73) and two shots from Luke Ryan (74) and James McLaughlin (74).

36 members progressed to the final round after the cut on Saturday afternoon. Once again the course proved a challenge for all competitors with only three members, Neil Brosnan (69), Ashley Sizer (69) and Josh Bailey (71), playing below their handicaps. After 36 holes Neil Brosnan and Karl Tattam both finished with a total of 144 (level par) and will need a playoff to decide the winner of the handicap trophy. In the Scratch Championship, Chris Nixon shot a gross 75 putting pressure on his playing opponent and first-round leader, Lee Yearn. Lee shot a 76 on the final day resulting in a tie for the Championship and both players headed to the 1st tee for the four-hole playoff.

The playoff between Chris and Lee proved very exciting with some quality golf played. Lee won the playoff after a birdie at the first hole and then some steady golf over the remaining three holes. This secured Lee his 14th Club Championship, a superb achievement.
